What Is Botox Cosmetic?

Botox Cosmetic is a prescription neuromodulator containing onabotulinumtoxinA. When injected into carefully selected facial muscles, it temporarily reduces the muscle activity that contributes to dynamic expression lines.

Rather than changing the shape of the face or adding volume, Botox Cosmetic works by relaxing targeted muscles beneath the skin. This may create a smoother, more refreshed appearance while still allowing you to look like yourself.

Results are temporary, and individual outcomes vary.

What Concerns Can Botox Cosmetic Address?

Botox Cosmetic may be appropriate for adults interested in temporarily improving the appearance of moderate to severe expression lines, including:

• Forehead lines
• Frown lines between the eyebrows, sometimes called "11 lines"
• Crow's feet around the eyes

What Happens During Treatment?

Botox Cosmetic is administered through a series of small, strategically placed injections. The number and location of the injections will depend on the treatment area, your facial anatomy and Dr. Godwin’s recommendations.

The treatment itself is generally brief and is performed in our Yardley office. Patients may experience temporary discomfort during the injections, although individual experiences vary.

Recovery and Aftercare

Botox Cosmetic typically requires little interruption to a patient’s normal routine. Many patients return to their usual daily activities after leaving the office.

Temporary redness, tenderness, swelling or bruising may occur around the injection sites. Dr. Godwin will provide personalized aftercare instructions, including guidance about exercise, makeup, touching the treated areas and other activities following treatment.

When Will I See Results?

Some patients begin noticing changes within several days, but the full effect may take approximately 7 to 14 days to develop.

The effects of Botox Cosmetic are temporary and commonly last approximately three to four months, although duration varies from patient to patient. Muscle movement and the appearance of expression lines will gradually return as the treatment wears off.

Patients who wish to maintain their results may choose to schedule follow-up treatments based on Dr. Godwin’s recommendations.

Are There Risks or Side Effects?

Botox Cosmetic is a prescription medical treatment and may cause side effects. These can include temporary discomfort, redness, swelling, bruising, headache, eyelid or eyebrow drooping, facial asymmetry or other effects.

Rare but serious complications are possible. Tell Dr. Godwin about all medical conditions, medications, supplements and previous botulinum toxin treatments before receiving Botox Cosmetic.

Botox Cosmetic may not be appropriate for individuals with certain medical conditions, allergies, infections near the proposed injection sites, or those who are pregnant or breastfeeding. Dr. Godwin will review the potential benefits, limitations and risks with you before treatment.
